Honoris Causa Doctorate Ceremony of Sir Martyn Poliakoff and visit to FCT NOVA

NOVA University Lisbon will award an honorary doctorate to Sir Martyn Poliakoff, british chemist. The ceremony of conferment of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa will be held on 22nd July, at 11:00 am at the Auditorium of NOVA University of Lisbon Rectorate, Campolide Campus. Ana Isabel Aguiar Ricardo, LAQV integrated researcher and Full professor at FCT NOVA, will do the laudation of the awardee and Manuel Nunes da Ponte, LAQV integrated researcher and Full professor at FCT NOVA, will be the patron.

On the folowwing day, 23rd July at 12:00, Sir Martyn Poliakoff will give a seminar "Mendeleev's Gift to Education (and to me)" at the Auditorium of FCT NOVA, in the scope of the celebrations of the International Year of the Periodic Table. 

 

About Sir Martyn Poliakoff

Sir Martyn Poliakoff is a worldwide recognized leader in sustainable chemistry for his contributions towards the development of supercritical fluids as solvent systems. He has not only been inspiring and motivating generations of students to pass on the message of Green Chemistry but also actively engaging with them through 1000+ videos on YouTube.

He is Professor of Chemistry in the University of Nottingham, renowned Fellow of the Royal Society (The UK's Academy of Sciences) and of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (USA), of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), of the Royal Academy of Engineering (Australia), Honorary Fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society, Associate Fellow and Honorary Member of Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, Foreign Member of Russian Academy of Sciences and Doctor Honoris Causa from Tallinn Technical University, Estonia.

Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff is a champion of Chemistry Professors serving society in its highest positions; he was Foreign Secretary and one of the Vice-Presidents of the Royal Society, the UK and Commonwealth Academy of Sciences, from 2011-2016.
