The Department of Chemistry (DQ) at NOVA School of Science and Technology | NOVA FCT is committed to delivering innovative and transformative education—ranging from foundational training and undergraduate programs (1st cycle) to advanced postgraduate education (2nd and 3rd cycles). This educational mission is strongly supported by cutting-edge scientific research.
In addition, the Department is dedicated to actively promoting and disseminating science—particularly to secondary school students and the general public—while also contributing to professional development and offering specialized services to the broader community.
The Department is organized into three scientific sections: Biochemistry and Biophysics, Chemistry, and Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. It also hosts three research units: the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry – REQUIMTE (LAQV), the Applied Biomolecular Sciences Unit (UCIBIO) and the Center for Mechanical Engineering and Resource Sustainability (MEtRICs).
