Raquel Viveiros, post-doctoral researcher at CleanMIPTech group from the Green Polymer Synthesis and Processing Laboratory at LAQV-REQUIMTE, has been awarded a YERUN Research Mobility Award. Her research is focused on developing affinity devices – Molecular Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) using green technologies such as supercritical carbon dioxide for several applications (environmental, sensing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, etc).
Ana Sofia Santos, Master student at MMMarques Lab (Organic Synthesis & Chemical Biology Group), has been awarded with the Portuguese Award for Best Master Thesis in Organic Chemistry 2017. She did her master degree in Bioorganic Chemistry and her thesis on “Sustainable synthesis of heterocyclic compounds on a soluble polymer support”.
The project BIOTESTE - rapid diagnostic tests based on biopolymer produced by bacteria from food waste received an Honorable Mention in the 10th edition of the Green Project Awards, whose award ceremony took place on January 12 at the Centro de Congressos da Alfândega do Porto.
Maria Manuel Marques, principal investigator at LAQV- FCT NOVA detailed an efficient protocol to attain 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-azaindoles in one pot (Org. Lett. 2017 , 19, 5118). The described protocol consists of sequential N-arylation of amino-o-halopyridines, Sonogashira reaction, and cyclization to the desired product. This is a fast and elegant access to this challenging class of compounds and creates a new platform to access novel drug candidates or scaled synthesis of actual drugs.
A consortium of European researchers, including César Laia and Jorge Parola, both researchers at LAQV at FCT NOVA, was awarded 6.7 million euros to develop the DecoChrom project for 4 years. This project will have other Portuguese partners, including Ynvisible, Sonae Indústria de Revestimentos and WeProductise.
On 29th September from 18:00 to 24:00, researchers from the Chemistry Department - FCT NOVA will be at Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (MUHNAC) in Lisbon, with various activities.
UCIBIO’s key strength lies on its broad scope of fundamental and applied research standing at the interface of Chemistry and Biology to address pertinent questions at atomic, molecular, sub-cellular and cellular levels, including cell-to-cell interactions and population evolutionary dynamics.
LAQV ́s mission is to cooperate in a continuous, competent and efficient way to achieve a Sustainable development by promoting new technologies that aim to reduce or even eliminate undesirable substances in the design, production and uses of Chemicals.
The Department of Chemistry, is a permanent organic unity of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT / UNL), devoted to teaching, and scientific research and to provide services in areas of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering.
The Chemistry Department (DQ), Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa , founded in 1981, has recognized market implementation of education and employment, particularly so because of the novelty and specificity introduced by the course in Chemistry with which teaching at the School of Chemistry began in 1981.
