Sir Martyn Poliakoff will be distinguished with an honorary doctorate by NOVA University Lisbon on 22nd July, at 11:00 am at the Auditorium of NOVA University of Lisbon Rectorate, Campolide Campus. On 23rd July at 12:00, Sir Martyn Poliakoff will give a seminar at the Auditorium of FCT NOVA, in the scope of the celebrations of the International Year of the Periodic Table.
Manuel Nunes da Ponte will be distinguished with a Scientific Merit Medal on July 8, 2019 in the Science and technology Summit in Portugal, Ciência 2019, that will take place in the Lisbon Congress Centre in Lisbon.
Ana Rita Duarte, Professor and leader of the Des.solve lab at LAQV in FCT NOVA, is the coordinator of the Cost Action “CA18224 - Green Chemical Engineering Network towards upscaling sustainable processes” that has been approved by the Committee of Senior Officials on the 4th of June 2019.
The Biochemical Engineering Lab at UCIBIO in the Chmistry Department, led by Maria Reis, is one of the partners of the European Project YPACK that aims to scale up and validate two innovative food packaging solutions based on polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) with active properties and passive barrier to reduce food waste by prolonging food shelf life.
The Biomolecular Engineering Lab at FCT-NOVA, led by Cecília Roque, showed that gelatin can be more than food. For the first time, it was shown an example of soft matter in artificial olfaction, where engineered gelatin materials combined with artificial intelligence tools were used to mimic the sense of olfaction. The results of this research work are published in the scientific journal Materials Today Bio - Effect of film thickness in gelatin hybrid gels for artificial olfaction.
Gastronomic Science researchers from the Chemistry Department at FCT NOVA participated in the 5th International Sea Urchin Festival. This international festival, organized by Mafra Town Hall, joined gastronomy to science, and took place from March 29 to April 7, in Ericeira.
UCIBIO’s key strength lies on its broad scope of fundamental and applied research standing at the interface of Chemistry and Biology to address pertinent questions at atomic, molecular, sub-cellular and cellular levels, including cell-to-cell interactions and population evolutionary dynamics.
LAQV ́s mission is to cooperate in a continuous, competent and efficient way to achieve a Sustainable development by promoting new technologies that aim to reduce or even eliminate undesirable substances in the design, production and uses of Chemicals.
The Department of Chemistry, is a permanent organic unity of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT / UNL), devoted to teaching, and scientific research and to provide services in areas of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering.
The Chemistry Department (DQ), Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa , founded in 1981, has recognized market implementation of education and employment, particularly so because of the novelty and specificity introduced by the course in Chemistry with which teaching at the School of Chemistry began in 1981.
