Notice for International Call to hire an Assistant Researcher

By delegation of power, according to Dispatch No. 9961/2018, published in the Diário da República no 205, 2.ª série, of october 24, 2018 the Director of the NOVA School of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon (FCT NOVA), Professor Doutor Virgílio António Cruz Machado, opens an international call for 45 days counting immediately after the publication of this notice to hire an Assistant Researcher under unfixed term employment contract for Project entitled (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2018 ) NEUROTRANS n.º: 860954, this project has received funding from the Horizon 2020 grant agreement number 860954.

 

1.  Type of contract and applicable legislation

The hiring of the Assistant Researcher shall be made by means of a unfixed term employment contract entered into in accordance with the Portuguese Labour Code approved by the Law no. 7/2009 of February 12th, as amended and by UNL Regulation n.º 393/2018 published Diário da República n.º 123, 2nd Series, at 28th of June, 2018 .

 

Everything that does not appear in this announcement will be ruled in accordance with the Code of Administrative Procedure.

 

2. Main attributions and activities and exclusivity

The Assistant Researcher (PhD student) shall be responsible for the tasks allocated to FCT NOVA in the framework of project ESR2 of the NeuroTrans consortium regarding the NMR based structural and dynamic investigation of the transport cycle of NSS transporters.

The Assistant Researcher shall fully devote the whole of his/her professional activity to FCT NOVA, on an exclusive basis.

 

3.  Place of work

The Assistant Researcher’s working place shall be at the premises of the Department of Chemistry  of Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in the framework of Applied Biomolecular Sciences Unit (UCIBIO), located at Campus de Caparica, Portugal, and he/she shall travel, in Portugal or abroad, as required by his/her attributions or as necessary for his/her activity.

 

4. Monthly remuneration and Duration

According to the Regulation of early stage researchers (ESR) of Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and the UNL Regulation is applied the n.º 3 of article 15 under n.º 393/2018 published in Diário da República no 123,  2nd Series, 28th of June 2018, the monthly salary in Portugal after the correction factor applied are: Living allowance – €1819.38/month, additional mobility allowance of €490.60/month, and family allowance of €500/month depending on family situation at the time of recruitment (this correspond gross monthly rate before all compulsory deductions applied to Portugal).

O contrato terá a duração máxima prevista de 36 meses e com início previsto em Outubro de 2020.

The contract will be for a maximum expected duration of 36 months and scheduled to start in October 2020.

 

5.  Admission Requirements

The candidates eligible need to follow the requirements within the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), namely do not reside and live in Portugal for more than 12 months in the last 3 years prior to the recruitment date plus to have less than 4 years at full time equivalent in researcher activities.

The candidates must have a Master's degree in a field such as Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related field. Training in protein production and purification would be a suitable background for this position; knowledge of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is also welcomed.

The candidates will be enrolled in the Doctoral Programme in Biochemistry at FCT NOVA
Candidates must meet at least one of the following conditions:

1.    Hold, in the scientific or similar area, a master's degree, or equivalent, awarded by a Portuguese or foreign higher education institutions, legally recognized.
2.    Be a relevant Bachelor's degree holder correspondent to a pre-Bologna graduate with a number of courses that can be considered equivalent to at least 240 credits.
3.    Holds an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the Board of the Department of Chemistry, as attesting the capacity to carry out this study cycle.

 

6. Evaluation of the Applications and Composition of the Jury

Applications shall be subject to evaluation by a jury that shall follow the procedure established in n.º1 of article 37º of Estatuto da Carreira de Investigação Cientifica, Decree-Law n.º 124/99 and by UNL Regulation n.º 393/2018 published in Diário da República n.º 123 ,2nd Series, June 28th of 2018.

The jury is composed of the following members:

- Presidente/Chairman:Eurico Cabrita, FCT-NOVA, Portugal
- Vogal/Member: Thomas Stockner, Medical University of Vienna, Austria
- Vogal/Member: Fraser MacMillan, University of East Anglia, UK
- Vogal/Member: Dirk Slotboom, University of Groningen, The Netherlands

 

7. Selection criteria

The selection of the successful candidate will be carried out through the evaluation of the scientific and curricular achievements as established by n.º1 of article 37º of Decree-Law n.º 124/99 of april 20th, that approves the statute of Investigation carreer and by UNL Regulation nº 393/2018 published in Diário da República n.º 123, 2nd Series, at 28th of June, and the selection criteria and their respective weighting shall be as follows:

a)    Adequacy of the CV to the position and recommendation letters
b)    Remote interview

 

8.   Final Decision

The final deliberation of the jury shall be homologated by the ultimate governing body of FCTNOVA.

The list of admitted and excluded candidates and the final list of classification will be publicized in the Chemistry Department of FCT NOVA and sent by electronic mail with receipt of delivery to all candidates

 

9. Submission of Applications

Applications must be submitted until the 22nd of June of 2020.

At the time of application, applicants do not need to have finished their Master's study (or equivalent) that allows for enrolling in a PhD programme, but it must be completed at the time of recruitment to the hosting institution.
