Notice for International Call to hire a PhD Researcher

By delegation of power, according to Dispatch No. 9524/2017, of October 18, published in the Diário da República 2nd Series, no. 208, of October 27, 2017, the Director of the NOVA School of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon (FCT NOVA), Professor Doutor Virgílio António Cruz Machado, opens an international call for 14 days to hire a PhD Researcher under a fixed term employment contract for Project entitled SHIKIFACTORY100 - Modular cell factories for the production of 100 compounds from the shikimate pathway, this project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the following topic BIOTEC-03-2018, grant agreement number 814408.

 

1.   Type of contract and applicable legislation

The hiring of the PhD Researcher shall be made by means of a Fixed Term Employment Contract entered into in accordance with the Portuguese Labour Code approved by the Law no. 7/2009 of February 12th, as amended.

The present hiring procedure is further governed inter alia by Decree-law no. 57/2016 of July 19th, as amended by the Law no. 57/2017 of August 29thand Regulatory decree no. 11-A/2017 of November 29th.

Everything that does not appear in this announcement will be ruled in accordance with the Code of Administrative Procedure.

 

2.   Main attributions and activities and exclusivity

The PhD Researcher shall be responsible for the tasks allocated to FCT-NOVA regarding the development of machine learning models for the selection of compounds to be synthesized.

 

The PhD Researcher shall fully devote the whole of his/her professional activity to FCT-NOVA, on an exclusive basis.

 

3.   Place of work

The PhD Researcher’s working place shall be at the premises of the Chemistry Department of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa located at Campus de Caparica and he/she shall travel, in Portugal or abroad, as required by his/her attributions or as necessary for his/her activity.

 

4.   Monthly remuneration and Duration

The PhD Researcher shall earn a monthly remuneration in the gross amount of €2128.34 by reference to level 33 of the Single Remuneration Table , pursuant to number 2 of Article 15 of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 19 July, as amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 29 August, and Regulatory Decree no. 11-A / 2017, of December 29.

The contract will be for the entire project duration, with a maximum expected duration of 33 months and scheduled to start in April 2019.

 

5.   Admission Requirements

Applicants to this call may be national, foreign or stateless candidates holding a PhD degree in the field of Chemistry / Computer Science or similar and complying with the following specific requirements:

 

  1. Experience in Chemoinformatics or Computational Chemistry
  2. Candidates with expertise in machine learning, QSAR, and/or programing languages will be preferred.

 

If the applicant is not of Portuguese nationality, or a country whose official language is Portuguese or English, the application process will include an internationally recognized certificate of adequate command of the English language.

 

6.   Evaluation of the Applications and Composition of the Jury

Applications shall be subject to evaluation by a jury that shall follow the procedure established in articles 13 and 14 (by virtue of article 19) of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 19 July, as amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 29 August.

 

Pursuant to Article 13 of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 the jury is composed of the following members:

- Member: Dra. Maria Florbela Pereira

- Member: Prof. Doutora Maria Manuel Barata Marques

- Substitute Member: Prof. Doutora Ana Lourenço

- Substitute Member: Prof. Doutora Paula Branco

 

7.   Selection criteria

The selection of the successful candidate will be carried out through the evaluation of the scientific and curricular achievements as established by Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 19 July, as amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 29 August and the selection criteria and their respective weighting shall be as follows:

 

a)    Adequacy of the CV to the position (75%);

b)    Remote interview (25%)

 

8.   Final Decision

The final deliberation of the jury shall be homologated by the ultimate governing body of FCT-NOVA that is also responsible for the decision of hiring.

 

The list of admitted and excluded candidates and the final list of classification will be publicised in the Chemistry Department of FCT-NOVA and sent by electronic mail with receipt of delivery to all candidates.

 

9.   Submission of Applications

Applications must be submitted until the 12 March, 2019, by email addressed to ibc@fct.unl.pt and containing a single PDF file with the following documents in Portuguese or English languages: Doctoral Certificate; short CV (max. five pages) with list of publications appended.
