Abstract
Modern experimental science generates large volumes of diverse data. Furthermore, technology changes at a fast pace, requiring rapid adaptation of data analysis tools and methods. Generic applications, such as spreadsheet software, demand too much manual intervention to provide easily reproducible analysis and are not suited for processing large volumes of data, while commercial applications tailored to specific problems often lag behind the cutting edge of experimental methods. This leads to problems ranging from inefficient or labor intensive data analysis to data becoming useless without the persons who originally processed them. This talk will present some examples of how customized software tools and basic training in computer assisted data analysis can improve data processing, storing and retrieval in the lab.
