Ionic-liquid-based separation processes as improved purification platforms of added-value compounds

Abstract
Particularly due to their designer solvents ability, ionic liquids have been largely investigated as promising media in separation processes. ILs have been studied as solvents, co-solvents, co-surfactants, electrolytes, and adjuvants in liquid-liquid systems, as well as in the creation of IL-supported materials [1-2]. In this presentation, IL-based separation processes for the purification of added-value compounds will be overviewed and discussed. Recent advances on the development of switchable and integrated production-separation processes will be presented.

Short Bio
Mara G. Freire is a Coordinator Researcher at CICECO, Chemistry Department, University of Aveiro, the Director of Group 5 - Biomedic and Biomimetic Materials - within CICECO, and a member of the Young Scientists Seminar of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. In addition to other projects and awards, in 2014 Freire was a recipient of a European Research Council (ERC) Grant. Her main research interests comprise the development of sustainable separation platforms for added-value compounds with therapeutic applications.
