Eight FCT Investigator positions awarded to scientists at the Chemistry Department

15-12-2014

Eight programme-contracts have been awarded to researchers at the Chemistry Department, in the scope of the 2014 FCT Investigator Programme: Ana Vital Nunes, Gilda Oehmen, Inês Matos, Isabel Esteves, Luísa Neves, Paulo Lemos, Susana Gaudêncio e Teresa Casimiro. The FCT Investigator Programme is centered on the researcher and his/her research project, creating conditions for the establishment of scientific leaders, by providing 5-year funding for the most talented and promising researchers, across all scientific areas and nationalities.

Established in 2012, the programme supports both outstanding post-doctoral researchers who wish to make the transition to independent researcher, and already independent researchers, with a proven track record, who wish to consolidate their research skills and establish leadership in their research fields. The main evaluation criterion is scientific excellence: of the applicant’s background, career and of the research proposal.

According to Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, in 2014, 1398 scientists applied for this programme, and a total of 228 researchers have been recommended for funding in all scientific areas, after two selection rounds. At the Chemistry Department, 5 researchers have been selected in Engineering and Technology, 2 researchers in Environmental and Agricultural Sciences and 1 researcher in Exact Sciences.
