The DQ is home to a research unit called Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CQFB). The CQFB is recognized with the status of Associate Laboratory, in association with the Center of Chemistry, University of Porto (CEQUP), by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education since November 2001. This association with its own statutes was called REQUIMTE (Technology and Chemistry Network) and the status of Associate Laboratory assigned in the area of Green Chemistry and Clean Processes.
REQUIMTE is the largest network in Chemistry and Chemical and Biochemical Engineering established in Portugal. The complementary of scientific areas from REQUIMTE allows a comprehensive approach of topic Green Chemisty – Clean Technologies and Processes. REQUIMTE´s mission is to cooperate in a continuous, competent and efficient way in the prosecution of the specific goals of the national scientific and technological policies, in the areas of:

• Natural Products: Screening and Synthesis
• Food Quality and Safety
• Clean production technologies and processes
• Environmental control and (bio)remediation
• Catalyst, solvents and non-toxic compounds
