Master in Biochemistry


Started in the academic year 2012/2013.  The minimum number of credits for the degree is 120 (2 years). 


The Master in Biochemistry provides a solid background in biochemistry and effective preparation, both careers in the business market and in scientific research.

The Master in Biochemistry provides a more specialized training in the areas of biomedicine and Biomolecules structure as well as a wide range of options in applied biochemistry areas. The practical component is highly valued with a regime of laboratory rotations right from the 1st academic semester.

The conclusion of the 1st academic year of the Master in Biochemistry ensures an Advanced Studies Diploma in biochemistry.

The 2nd year corresponds exclusively to "Dissertation in Biochemistry" in which the student can choose between the research laboratories of the FCT NOVA, in the Lisbon area or in the country as well as the dissertation in a company.

Foreign students: 7000 €/year 60% reduction for CPLP (Community of Portuese Language Countries) students

Entrance requirements for the 2017/2018 academic year



Admission rules:

  1. Degree holder in named area or in the Exact Sciences and Technology areas;
  2. Holders of a foreign academic degree in required areas conferred following the 1st cycle of studies according to the Bologna Process;
  3. Holders of a foreign academic degree in required areas recognized as meeting the objectives of the Bachelor´s degree by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology;
  4. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish referred cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
