UCIBIO and LAQV at the National Biotechnology Festival

09-04-2015

Researchers from UCIBIO and LAQV will be present at the National Biotechnology Festival on the 10th and 11th of April. UCIBIO and other several portuguese scientific institutions in the biotechnology field demonstrate the relevance, excitement and wonder of biotechnology to students, teachers and general public at the Pavilion of Knowledge. It is an excellent opportunity to know how biotechnology affects our daily lives, throughout more than 40 hands-on activities.

The activities presented by our researchers show the application of biotechnology to health, and to industry and environment. Ten portuguese ambassadors have been chosen among secondary education students to participate in outreach Biotechnology-related events, both national and international ones. They will be helping UCIBIO’s and LAQV’s researchers on their activities:

Biopolymers on disease treatment

Researchers: Patrícia Morgado, Vanessa Almeida, Sara Correia, Ana Aguiar Ricardo

Small machines do big things

Researchers: Cecília Roque, Arménio Barbosa, Ricardo Branco

Biopolymers: an alternative to plastic

Researchers: Joana Fradinho, Cristiana Torres

NanoAlchemy in Biotechnology

Researchers: Sara Figueiredo, Fábio Carlos, Pedro Viana Baptista

The National Festival of Biotechnology is an initiative of the World Biotech Tour (being UCIBIO a project partner), which is coordinated by the Association of Science-Technology Centers, with support from Biogen Foundation. The Pavilion of Knowledge is the first science center to host this project. During 2015 the WORLD BIOTECH TOUR will also stop in Technopolis, the Flemish Science Centre, in Belgium, and in the National Museum of Emerging Science and Inovation, in Japan.
