Description
Ion chromatography is a type of liquid chromatography that uses ion exchange resins to separate atomic or molecular ions based on their interaction with the resin. The separation of analytes is achieved so isocratic or gradient application. The advantage of this technique lies in simplifying the determination of ionic species simultaneously which alternative is more complex and time consuming.
It is used for the analysis of inorganic ions in various matrices such as wastewater or fermentation broths (anions such as chloride, fluoride, nitrite, nitrate and sulfate; cations such as lithium, calcium, ammonium, magnesium, potassium and sodium). This technique allows the analysis of aliphatic organic acids and organic sulphonic acids, biochemical species such as carbohydrates - mono-, disaccharides and some oligosaccharides, alcohols derived from carbohydrates, amino acids, proteins and other compounds. In addition to the listed applications it is possible to develop specific methods for other analytes, provided they are within the range of equipment operation.
The detection limit is of the order of ppm but anionic analytes can be identified in the order of ppb.
Ion chromatography system – DIONEX, model ICS-3000 equipped with the following detectors:
PDA - Photodiode Array Detector - 190 to 800 nm
ED - Electrochemical Detector - Pulsed / Integrated Amperometry
CD - Conductivity Detector
101 Shodex RI - refractive index detector
The sample ready for analysis (internal requests) must first be filtered and have a minimum volume of 600 mL, although in some cases a bigger volume may be necessary depending on the bulk analysis desired. If the sample requires complex preparation (digestion, extraction), contact the technician in charge.

The analysis request should be filled and signed by the head of the institution that makes the request (Download the application form). Analyses are performed by order of submission of application in laboratory analysis. In the case of samples for method development and in the case of large number of samples, the response time is agreed with the authority solicitor.
The equipment is operated solely by the technician in charge. If requested by the client it is allowed direct contact with the equipment which provides a brief technical/theoretical accompanied demonstration working practice.
Upon request of an analysis the client should contact the technician directly responsible for the equipment to clarify all issues that involve the analysis.

1 - Samples must be clearly identified, so that during manipulation does not erase the identification, and should be delivered well packaged.
2 - Delivery of results will be made by e-mail in PDF format, to be sent simultaneously to the applicant and responsible. In the case of complaints, they should be made within 15 working days.
3 - The remainder of the samples will be stored in the laboratory for 15 days after completion of the analysis, after which will be eliminated.
